David Cronenberg is one of my favourite directors of all time. His work is unlike anything else with his weird surreal body horror movies making him a staple of horror cinema. However, in recent years he has strayed away from his horror roots opting for more conventional thriller, crime, and drama films such as Crash and history of Violence. That’s why I am excited to hear about his return to the Body Horror genre with Crimes of the Future.
The Sci Fi horror project stars Kristen Stewart and Viggo Mortensen. The film is set in the near future where humans live in article surrounding and have altered their biology. Containing both people who accept this idea of transhumanism and those who police it.
The main plot of the film centres around Saul Tenser a beloved performance artist who has embraced accelerated performance syndrome sprouting new and unexpected organs on his body. along with his partner Caprice, Tenser has turned the removal of these organs into a spectacle for his loyal followers to marvel at in real time theatre. However, the government and a strange subculture closes in around him causing tenor to create his most shocking performance of all.
As a big fan of David Cronenberg, it excites me to no end to hear about his return to the Body Horror genre and delving another weird gory insane horror film.
