Metal Lords is 2022 comedy directed by Peter Sollett and starring Jaeden Martell, Adrian Greensmith and Isis Hainsworth. The film revolves around two friends who try and form a heavy metal band with a cellist to compete in a battle of the band’s competition. Metal Lords is not some kind of cinematic masterpiece, but it is a fun funny little film that as a fan of metal myself I enjoyed for what it was.
The directing in the film in decent. The film contains a fun, funny style throughout and doesn’t take itself to seriously whilst still feeling like a passionate love letter to the genre. The chemistry between the three main leads is the best part of the film all the actors sell their parts well and have a good back and forth with each other.
The acting in the film is decent. Jaeden Martell does a good job as Kevin. He plays an awkward nerdy character who also just so happens to be a metalhead. Adrian Greensmith acts as a good counterpart as Hunter playing the stereotypical metalhead and gets a good percentage of the laughs in the film. Isis Hainsworth is also good as Emily she plays a cello player who joins the bad and her brash loud violent personality makes up the other percentage of the laughs as well as acting as a love interest for Kevin. None of these charters are deep or complex but they don’t really have to be they severe their purpose in guiding the audience along on their wacky metal adventure.
The writing in the film is decent. The film has a good sense of humour and doesn’t take itself too seriously. There are some genuinely funny jokes here and there although nothing I was laughing at load at. The story itself is decant with a clear to follow pot and character. Nothing about the writing was amazing but it did hold my interest from begging to end. The cinematography in the film is also decent. Although there aren’t really any standout shots, everything is done in a competent way and fit with the film well.
Overall Metal Gods is a fun entraining film. Is it a masterpiece, no. But as a fan of metal I got a kick out of it.
