Chainsaw Man is a 2022 directed by Ryu Nakayama and Masato Nakazono based of the manga of the same name by Tatsuki Fujimoto. The plot of the film follows Denji an impoverished young man who makes a contract with a devil to use there body’s together and form his body into chainsaws. Denji then ends up joining the Public Safety Devil Hunters a government agency that fights devils when they appear in japan. Having heard of Chainsaw Man when it was about to come out as a great manga but having never read it myself, I was curious. Chainsaw Man is a good anime that feels like an 80s horror film with very enjoyable characters.

The direction in the show is good the show contains several memorable scenes that will stick in your head long after. The charters within the show have a good team dynamic that allows them to bounce off each other and have a good team dynamic with one another. The mood in the show balances dynamic moments and comedy very well. The world in the show is a harsh and brutal one where serious stuff happens but there is defiantly comedy peppered throughout. The style of the show is good. The show for the most part has a serious and gritty tone however the darkness of the story does help to complement this. The show fells insane in the best possible way and creates a unique experience.

The acting in the show is good. Ryan Colt Levy does a good job as Denji. He plays the charter has someone who is not overly likeable, but the evolution of his character is what drives Chainsaw Man. Suzie Yeung does a good job as Makima her clam almost overly nice persona gives and unsettling performance to the character and helps to present her has an evil force. Reagan Murdock does a good job as Aki his stern no nonsense persona acts as an initial foil for Denji but he shows his soft side throughout the show and ends up forming a friendship with Denji. Sarah Wiedenheft does a good job as Power; her crazy chaotic energy is brilliant and she is truly a delight to watch throughout the show.

The writing in the show is good. The show starts out as a somewhat formulaic monster of the week show but halfway through the show it takes a dramatic change. Things become shocking and serious leading to a darker world being presented to us. However, the show never loses its sense of humour and brilliantly companies to dark elements with comedy.

The cinematography in the show is good and is really helped by the animation. There is lots of unique camera angels, shots and effects that really help to elevate the show. It feels as if the people in charge of the show really care about the project and are putting there all into their work resulting in a very cinematic show the feels more like a movie than an anime series.

Overall Chainsaw Man is a great show. It is a fun but series no holds barred hell ride that never loses momentum and is deftly worth the watch.
