Organ is a 1996 Japanese horror film written, directed, and produced by Kei Fujiwara. The film centres around two organ thieves who removes organs from their captives as they are still alive as two police detectives infiltrate the group as the raid on their headquarters goes haywire. Organ is about the nature of cruelty and how internal conflicts can be shown externally and how this evil is transferred and how people must live with this ideology.
The film starts demonstrating the idea that some humans are destined to be killer as that evil is everywhere as shown by violent imagery, this showcase of the transferable nature of violence is shown with the biker gangs beating up people. The film is shown to taken place in an evil world with human organ harvesters going around town making money as they profit form the dead by harvesting organs. This nature of cruel is shown with the idea of you been worth more dead than alive, this is further shown with death awakening evil in Yoko as there is evil within everyone as the cops track down the organ harvesters. This shows how evil is transferred from person to person and is a sickness people must live with.
A guy ends up stumbling across an organ harvesting operation before he is knocked out by the and kidnapped and they bring another body into a warehouse, this showcases how evil is transferred from person to person creating infinite misery. This cruelty is shown and infect everyone with the brother and sister who run the operation, this is further shown as they kidnap a guy and beat up another guy as both want to move up in the organ harvesting world as they are both disconnected from emotions. They care for each other as the siter doesn’t like people disrespecting her brother as they very much have a normal brother sister relationship with the organ harvesting operation happening in the background, showcasing that in this exploration of cruelty love seems to be an answer. However, this film also shows their brutal cruelty as the brother sister and the rest of the team kidnap people and harvest their organs. One of the victims goes crazy as he is still alive as the detectives try and rescue him as he attacks the harvesters, the sister then knocks out the other detectives as the brother and sister have a word relationship. A fight ensues and one of the cops is knocked out as one of the harvesters injects him and they escape, as all the harvesters end up tumbling around like crazy stumbling around holding organs screaming in agony. The cop then has a vison of his dead partner with skin pealed looking like a zombie, this shows the nature of cruelty and how this is passed on from person to person through violence.
The detective then wakes up seemingly in aa dream sequence. He walks in a daze as the film shows the organ harvesting operation. The film shows Tosaka is partner being captured as he is suspended and taken of the case, the film then shows the bound Seakei still being alive and talking to him. This show how cruelty effect everyone in a negative way and how this violence is passed along. The detective is shown that he gets his parents killed and the cops don’t like him as human as he sees visons of dead bodies highlighting the films cruelty. Saeki’s backstory in shown about how she ran away from her parents, Tosaka is then also shown seemingly mutilated being in a place with trees in the room, this shows how cruelty from the past creates violence. The student talks to her teacher who is Saeki about a bad dream about gory flashes and dead victims. Slime then oozes from a guy in her dream as she urinates and then salivates as she bites on someone as someone peeps on her. This shows how violence is within everyone and a normal person is capable of horrific violence due to their internal rage. One of the organ guys and his friend end up being bossed around as they have no family again showing the cruelty within humans and society.
A young girl ends up being harvested for her organs in a sexual way as is some regard they are dumb kids and through his cruelty this is how they get pleasure. A schoolgirl sees butterflies snooping around Saeki’s classroom. This transitions into a dream sequence in with Saeki envisions a giant chrysalis in which a woman hatches from it seemingly horny. She then talks about caterpillars being in her belly as she pulls one out that looks like an umbilical cord and rubs it against her. This shows the evolution of humanity a different kind of organism, as through acts of cruelty it biologically mutates into a new kind of organism showcasing the evolution of mankind. Sekei brutality kills another victim as Tosaka who has had his arms and legs removed showing mutation he begs to stop as She
Then ejects him as a schoolgirl is also shown to have her organ removed. This shows how the evolution of humanity is self-created thing allowing for acts of cruelty on yourself and other people. Saeki and Yoko have a weird relationship. Saeki is more of al oose cannon killing two students. Yoko by comparison is more serious being jealous of other women being around him as they have an implied incestuous relationship. This relationship showcases the cruelty of people and humanity and that within this cruelty certain people find a closeness towards a small selection of people. Tosaka is seemingly becoming a new kind of lifeform as Seaki’s co-worker is horrible to him, showing how this cruelty forces humanities evolution.
Numata ends up tracking the organ harvesting group down and chases after one of the guys as a fight ensues and another guy slams a truck into him. Numata ends up mutated into an insect looking person showcasing the body horror on the film, which is also shown with his arm being cut off as Tosaka’s arm is seemingly mutated. This showcases how cruelty and evil lives within everyone and how everyone can transfer cruelty from one person to another no matter who they are. Tosaka ends up beating to truckers bloody as the film alludes to the idea that he killed his brother as he is then in a dream sequence walking in a fit of rage, this shows how the cruelty is never ending and victims of violence committing violent acts. Two guys go to Numata’s house as he protects his son as other guy has sex with his wife, she tries to resist but the guy rapes her showcases showcasing how the cycle of cruelty is constantly transferred. The cop who finds Numata’s wife raped is uncaring the hatred is never ending as he hates family and his life and this affects everyone, showcasing the cycle cruelty destroying people’s emotions. People end up freaking out as Tosaka ends up freaking out form his trauma as he needs drugs as he is mutating. This cycle of cruelty creating evil people is shown with Toshka being abused by his mother starving him and cutting his genitals off showcasing how cruelty is an unbreakable cycle.
Their mother also stabbed out Yoko’s eye as Yoko fears Seaki’s sickness is mutating showcasing the cycle of cruelty physically manifested through mutations. Their parents get into a fight as the dad wants to help them as he wants to get them to a doctor. The kids end up being found by the police blooded and mutilated. The film shows that cycle of evil will continue is nothing happens to help people though their abuse and break the cycle. Their parents get into a fight as their dad wants to get them to a doctor. This shows how their psychological cruelty and mutated into a physical sickness with them. Nutama drinks his own blood and tortures Toska who is afraid to live and afraid to die. From this Tosaka starts to mutate more from the experiments destroying his body. This shows the nature of cruelty, and this mutation shows the cycle of abuse.
The mutations of the characters are symbolic of their own subconscious rage. As this rage caused by abuse creates powers, as ultimately, they need money to fix the abuse both physically and metaphorically. A girl ends up finding Tosaka’s mutated body as the cops and criminals end up bumping into each other. The man talks to the teacher about his stuff and confronts him as the guy gets killed by another one of the organ harvesters as they all turn on each other as the brother and siter try and harvest their organs. This showcases the cycle of abuse and violence and the cruelty spreads to everyone creating death. The cops then run into a gang member who gets violent wight him, as the sister helps her brother out with an organ harvesting job gone wrong were they must kill someone. This shows cruelty is a sickness everyone must live with that destroys lives. The cops are then beaten bloody by the gangsters. The brother yakuza boss who operates an organ business as he wants revenge for them messing with it. This shows that cruelty lies with everyone it is a sickness that everyone has. The yakuza goes to help the boss as the cops kills the yakuza and escapes, the yakuza then almost kill Yoko but is killed by the police who run him over. This shows how they’re cruelty lives within them and that they must live with this.
Saeki’s assistant decides to give them up as the wall her closing in around her in exchange for her to be treated nicely, she leads the cops to his hidden back room as Numata kicks them out as they don’t have a warrant. His shows this is the nature of violence is everlasting within everyone. The girl tries to make her get away as the assistant converts the man, she touches his mutated body in shock and seeing him as a freak she ties to mutilate him. This shows the internal cycle of cruelty which is formed externally. The gang members all turn on each other and the brother and sister as they kill each other as the brother and sister getaway, the sister then cuts into the brother mutilated body being turned on. This again shows the cycle of violence is inherent within people due to abuse and it will always be there. Tosaka and the female teacher have sex as Saeki watches. As he ejaculates, he vomits as he his mutated as he has sex with her. This aging shows the internal phycological conflict of the nature of cruelty as further shown when Numata kills Tosaka for being a killer. Yoko ends up holding Numata at gun point tormenting him as both end up making out with the girls who kill them. This again shows the cruelty people have a sickness that become part of their nature. The film ends with Yoko who is still alive but wounded dying is Saeki’s arms showing that trauma and cruelty has only brought everyone pain. Tosaka is then finally found by his twin who has been mutated by the brother and sisters experiments as he asks who him and not you as the cruelty continues for both. This shows the internal political conflict of the characters as their abuse shows he nature of cruelty which as imbedded itself in the minds and will be with them forever.
Organ examines the internal phycological conflict of the nature of cruelty by showing it externally. It demonstrates how cruelty lays its eggs at the heart of people conciseness and that this is a sickness that people must live with. This is an ideology that will imbed itself within people’s minds forever and will never go away.
