Erotic Ghost Story is Hong Kong erotic film directed by Lam Ngai Kai and staring Amy Yip, So Man, Hitomi Kudo and Manfred Wong. The film centres around three ghost who after helping a scholar being to fall for him which leads to erotic romps and the discovering that he is a dangerous demon. Erotic ghost Story is a fun crazy of the the top sleaze film that fans of crazy Asian cinema will like.
The direction in the film is good. The film has a classic Asian style to it with it having kung fu elements. The film is ultimately an erotic sex film but what makes it interesting is the horror movie elements which makes it unique. The film mixes classic horror movie troupes as well as Asian horror movie troupes to make an interesting blend of styles within the film. The film has an interesting use of Asian mysticism with the use of Taoism in the film as the film has Asian inspired magic battles. The film has a great blend of Asian mysticism and comedy making for an interesting style with good humour. The film has an ethereal otherworldly feel to it with is shown by surreal flashback sequences. The film does have a weird beauty to it as well as a good amount of sleaze with this being a sex film about naked ghost lesbians who have magical powers. The film is erotic and sexual to the point where it feels a bit like a borderline soft core porn film. 5he film is very much an erotic film with sex scenes, as the film is sexual throughout such as the ghost creating laceration scratch marks like BDSM. The film has erotic sex scenes as an awkward tension builds between the three sisters as they have all been with the same man.
The three sisters all end up with the scholar however the film then transitions into a horror film with bloody violence and sexual torture as the film has an interesting clash of styles throughout the film. the film has an interesting classic of it being a sex film combined with a supernatural magic film, with is shown with the scholar slowly evolving transforming and decaying. The scholar is sucking the ghost sisters’ power as they are reverting to their original form as they had sex with him which links to a body horror transformation, which shows this is a sleazy sex film with creative horror elements making the film surreal. The film is very much a horror film as he is transformed into the demon god Wu-Tung shows the themes of Asian mysticism. This is further shown with a Taoist Asian magical ritual sowing the mysticism as they use a voodoo doll. In the climax of the film the sisters make a voodoo doll of him and make him vomit and attack him as they stab him all over his body as green blood oozes as he transforms into a monster as thunder and lightning rains down as the film perfectly uses b-movie violence and Asian mysticism. He then appears in whirlwind of lighting as they fight him and wrap him up in their coloured light robes and use their colourised light blasts to turn him normal as the film mixes Asian mysticism with b- movie action. The film ending is crazy as he still has magic and hypnosis’s them as the Taoist reverts to his demon form as they fight him and kill him as he explodes. This again shows this Asian mysticism in contrast with entertaining over the top b-movie violence.
The acting in the film is good. Amy Yip does a good job as Hua-Hua one of the ghosts in the film. Ha Chia Ling does a good job as the Scholar the protagonist of the film. Man So does a good job as Pai So-So one of the ghosts in the film. Hitomi Kudo does a good job as Kei Fei one of the ghosts in the film. Ha Chi Chun does a god job as Mrs. Wang one of the neighbours in the film. Lam Chung does a god job as Hsuan Kuei. Sin Lap-Man does a good job as Wu Ming in the film. Manfred Wong does a good job as Mr. Wang the neighbour in the film.
The writing in the film is good. The film starts showing the ghosts a powerful as the women beats up the people that were sexually harassing her, as the woman as several sisters that the men have sex with however, they become corpses as the film combines sleazy erotic with b-movie horror, the other women then turn old as it shown they were ghosts. The film has elements of Asian mysticism as the god of the temple understands men and women as they come here to conceive however an evil presence watches over them. The ghost then meets the Taoist as she is a spirt fox god as she fights back against him as the Taoist warns her that humans and spirits can’t coexist, and evil forces will try and eliminate them with shows the themes of Asian mysticism throughout the film. The man guy and one of the women engage in a comedic sex scene. The film does give the sisters some depth with a flashback of one of the women having a lover and other one of the sisters also having a lover giving them some sympathy. The film at its core is a b-movie it is a sex film with naked ghost lesbians. The films mysticism is also shown when one of the ghosts saves a guy with er magical powers, however the scholar is injured, and she takes him back to his house and uses her magical powers to clean everything up.
One of the girls’ sisters then find out about the scholar who scolds her as they fight, and she forces himself onto her as the film are sleazy soft-core porn like eroticism as they have sex. Bonds form between the sisters as bonds form between them and they have sex as the film as great soft-core sleaze to it. The big sister then finds out that he has had sex with her little sisters and faints however they come to and have sex as he ends up with all three of them as the film is very much a sleazy erotic film. The Taoist ends up spying on them as he wants them. He then goes to his wife who is annoyed about being with other women as the madman scolds the ghost women about becoming shameless as the women get the scholar to leave as the film is very much a sleazy sex film. he then makes them eat peaches as the madam vomits blood and die the film has sexual violence to it added with surrealism. He then cuts a pineapple and in doing so undresses the madam. This sexually stimulates her awakening her sexuality as she forces herself onto her husband as the film as soft core porn elements. He then goes back to his normal ways drained of energy and seemingly in a daze as he gains magical powers form sex like a STD as he turns a flower into a butterfly which he uses to find himself a woman. The butterfly comes across a woman which leads her to the man now consumed by power as he hypnotises her and he is loosely evolving transforming and decaying witch is shown with the body horror of the film being a monster movie.
One of the sisters wakes up with a hairy chest as she has an animal head in the mirror as the film has body horror elements. The scholar is seemingly sucking the power as the they are reverting to their original forms. The sisters being degrading has undone there training as being with him as violated their power showing the sexual element of the film, as he has been consumed by their power and is transforming into a monster as the film also has b-movie elements. He attacks one of the sisters by pulling her face off as he has transformed into the demon god wu-tung as the big sister goes to the Taoist for help and he says to defeat him with magic. The film has b-movie sleaze combined with great eastern mysticism which is further shown with the insane climax. They make a voodoo doll out of him making him vomit as they attack him all over, he his body as the film has great b-movie violence. The scholar then transforms into a monster as thunder and lightning rains down as he appears in the whirlwind of flighting, the film as great insane b-movie violence. They fight him as by wrapping him up in coloured light globes and uses coloured light blasts to turn him normal. The film uses b-movie violence combined with eastern mysticism. However, it turns out he still has his magic and hypnotises them as the Taoist comes in as he reverts to his demon form as they fight him, and he explodes killing him. This film shows the uses of eastern mysticism throughout the film as a they of combating evil.
The cinematography in the film is good. The main cinematography in the film is decent and uses a dream like looking filter lens. The film has a good weird looking mirror shot at close shots highlighting the eroticism. There is a good-looking shot of all the sisters looking through sperate rips in the same curtain. The film also has a good shot of a black cloud going over the sky with lightning strikes and dark lighting.
The special effects in teh film are good in a cheesy enjoyable way. The film has a good use a special effect props with skeleton corpses and intestines. The film has good gore effect with white liquid and chunks of flesh being bit out of people. The film has good use of retro magic effects with glowing red energy and good flying effects. The film has good blood effects. There is a cool looking effect were a flower gets changed into a butterfly via a pink light making it see though with is an old classic Asian fantasy film effect, the butterfly then turns into multiple butterflies and back to one in the same cool retro looking effect, there is also a good practical effect were the women get hair of there chests. This is continued with animal heads on the sisters. There is good body horror transformation where long hair grows, boils pop out of their faces, two red eyes flesh and their heads appear, as two other heads grow out via stretched long necks. There is a good practical effect where persons face is pulled of, there is great over the top effects with the bullets firing like explosions shooting green blood out of the body. The film has good use of magic effect with electric blue lighting and a good practical effects of monster hands. The film has a good use of monster make up and good colour effects with coloured light robes and coloured light magic blasts.
