The Sparks Brothers is a 2021 Documentary film directed by Edgar Wright about the pop rock due Sparks and its members Ron and Russel Mael. I will admit that I had never really heard of Sparks before this documentary outside of there most known song This Town Aint Big Enough For The Both Of Us. And listening to there music in this documentary I would say it’s good but not my sought of music. However, I enjoyed this documentary for being a farrow compressive look into specks with creative and imaginative visuals throughout the film courtesy of Edgar Wright.
The Direction and cinematography of this documentary is great. The interview sections of the film with both Sparks themselves and famous musicians that are fans of their work are presented in a clear style and were easy to digest. There were also several interviews with previous members of Sparks with also gave a nice dynamic.
The way the interviews were shot in black and white was a nice touch and helped with the overall visual style of this documentary. However, my peroral favourite part of The Sparks Brothers is the several animated sequences throughout the film. These were very interesting and helped to give the documentary a unique visual style in these sections to offset the talking head interviews.
Overall, The Sparks Brothers is a good watch. If you are a big fan of the band, you might get more out of it than I did. But even as someone who handed heard of Sparks before this documentary I was still thoroughly interested and entertained.
