The Man Who Saved the World is a 1982 science fantasy martial arts superhero adventure film directed by Çetin İnanç and starring actor/martial artist Cüneyt Arkın. The film follows two space cadets who crash land on a dessert planet were an evil wizard tries to take over the world. The Man Who Saved the World is a terrible film, but it is also a so bad its good film that is worth a watch.

The directing in the film is bad but entertaining. The film is all over the place and confusing, however this helps to develop a weird charm. The film has crazy editing and pacing, as the film uses music from Indiana Jones and Star Wars footage to create an obvious Star Wars rip off. The film is very low budget but that’s what gives it its charm, as the film has a classic Star Wars sci-fi action-adventure vibe just on a very small scale. The film has fun funny crazy over the top b movie action that makes no sense with music lifted from induna jones, as the film very much has a classic Star Wars feel but with a b movie style. The direction in the film is really confusing to the point where you don’t really know what’s going on as the film just changes scenes randomly. The film on one hand has a classic Star Wars plot but it is told very lose and in a very weird way. The film grabs from an abondance of American pop culture with the villain, the Darth Vader figure looking like a strange Flash Gordan villain as well as the use of Indiana Jones music. Film has a hilarious 80s montage sequence. This sequence shows the hero karate chopping rocks, lifting rocks, punching rocks, lifting, and swinging rocks until he can chop rocks in half. He then attaches rocks to himself and jumps which allows him to cut rocks in half.

The main guy and the princess fall in love, as the film has a Moley’s Canteen Han Solo style scene. The film has a simple Star Wars style plot, but the film is so inane to the point where you don’t know what’s going on. The film hits the beats of a Star Wars film but does it in a charming awkward low budget way that makes no sense. The film looks and feels like a very low budget b movie with weird over the top crazy low budget fight scenes, ash own when the main guy karate chops a sword in half with his mouth. The film is very much a weird cheesy b movie with bad editing that makes no sense, as the direction in the film is bad and random to the point where it’s a so bad its good. The film has weird creative looking movie villains, as the film feels like a collection of scenes loosely connected. Strangely there is religious subtext in this crappy b movie as the film is all over the place. The film has over the top action and 80s feeling music. The film ultimately has a simple plot told in a complicated way, with unintentionally funny death. The film has a classic suiting up battle scene where he engages in a crazy battle against all the monsters, as he the rescues the people from the monsters. The film ends with him facing of against the main bad guy and defeats him by karate chopping his body in half which destroys the bad guy’s ship and kills all the other bad guys. With everyone saved he goes back to earth flying into space.

The acting in the film is good. Cüneyt Arkın does a good job as Murat the protagonist hero of the film. Aytekin Akkaya does a good job as Ali Murats co-polit in the film. Füsun Uçar does a good job as the Wiseman’s daughter Murat’s love interest. Hüseyin Peyda does a good job as the Wiseman. Necla Fide does a good job as the Queen in the film. Hikmet Taşdemir does a good job as the Wizard the Darth Vader-esc character in the film. Mehmet Uğur, Kadir Kök, Aydın Haberdar and Yadigar Ejder do a good job as the creatures in the film.

The writing in the film is bad but entertaining. The film has a weird backstory where man has now been able to populate the universe and some of them are more primitive as they try and find immortality as they all try and become one and war breaks out. The villain the wizard is trying to conquer earth as the hero’s fight the enemy ship. They then get shot form the enemy gun fire as Murat and Ali crash land on the planet. They end up wandering the dessert as they become under attack by bad guy sci-fi Skellington knights. The empire rounds out citizens as well as the pilots to kill them. The two pilots then fight back against they bad guys. As they escape and are hailed by the princess and all the other characters in the film. The wizard is about to conquer earth, as the villain sucks blood from his dead enemies to become stronger. The film has a hilarious 80s montage training sequence with him karate chopping rocks. He is shown lifting rocks, punching rocks, lifting, and swinging rocks until he can chop rocks in half as he attaches rocks to himself and jumps allowing him to chop rocks in half, as him and the princess fall in love.

He leaves and goes to a Mosley centenar style place, as the Mosley centenar style scene leading to a fight where they beat up the enemy that are there. The main villain then survives to explain the place, they then get kidnap and get taken to the villain’s lair as one guy gets taken away and the other guy gets taken to the queen. The villain’s plan is to take everyone’s brains to control the universe, as they kidnap the princess and kill the kid, as the bear and Skellington villains attack the main guy who fights them off. One of the pilots gets tricked by the evil princess who kidnaps him as the other guy beats up. The enemy solider as they gets knocked out by stun guns and kidnapped by the enemy, as they are toured and buried alive. They then emerge from the burial and are attacked by mummies, as the enemy then finds them and captures them as he kills the yeti monster. All the monster villains then come after them, as they must go and find the weapons being the sword to kill the brain and defeat the evil. They then make it into a church were its shows the enemy being servants of the devil, as he fights people then gets the sword and the brain to defeat the evil. After getting the stuff from the princess the guy must fight his friend who is possessed by the villains as well as a giant monster, as one of the pilots is kidnapped and tortured as the hero guy comes to the rescue him. The main guy then destroys the torture devise ad frees his friend, as the possessed guy knocks out the main guy, steals himself and takes off.

He the accidently gives the sword to the main bad guy who now has the power to destroy earth as the good guys must fight to save the world. The other space pilot runs away but runs into explosives and dies in an unintentionally hilarious way. To defeat the villain, melt his sword to craft golden metal gloves to defeat the bad guys. The main guy fights and kills all the bad monster guys as he engages in a battle against the evil wizard guy who is trying to destroy the world. the climax of the film is when the main guy faces of against the bad guy. He defeats him by karate chopping his body in half which destroys the bad guy’s ship and kills the other bad guys as everyone is saved and he goes back to his world flying into space.

The cinematography in the film is bad but weirdly charming. The film uses footage from Star Wars and projects onto a back screen the create their film, the film also has weird shots of the sun and dust. The film has a weird red filter and split vision as wen the bad guy gets chopped in half as the film shows one half of the film and then the other half.

The special effects in the film are charmingly bad. The low budget special effects have a charm to them as with the robot suit that looks kind of cool. The film has charmingly bad low budget effects, costumes and weapons and interesting, weird strobe light effects. The film as enjoyably bad zombie effects and a teddy bear yeti. The film has charmingly bad weird low budget creature effects, as well as interesting metal suit cyberman crossed with medieval knight creatures. The film has charming low budget effects with a brain painted gold and a cool low budget yeti effect. The film has a charming style to it with a cardboard sword as well as mummy costumes and cool laser effects.

The Man Who Saved the World is a so bad its good film that fans of trash cinema should watch.
