The film centres around a man who penis who becomes detached from has body becoming a high-speed flying penis that the man must catch it and reattach it to his body within six days before it dies. Popuran is a fun funny weird crazy film with an element of sweetness form it that fans of weird films should watch.
The direction in the film is good. The actors in the film do a good job with one another. The film has a small tight nit cast of actors that work well together and all of them have good chemistry with the main character. The mood of the film is good. The film is weird. The film concept in and of itself is surreal making for a very strange movie. This strangeness also allows the film to be naturally funny as the absurdist humour of the film really shines through. The style of the film is good. The film has a weird surreal energetic style to it that really works for the film and helps with the zaniness of the concept.
The acting in the film is good. Yoji Minagawa does a good job as Tagami the man who loses his penis who goes though a good arc starting out as a jerk then becoming a better and humbler person as the film goes on. Hindenobu Abera does a good job as Tagami’s ex-wife who have an interesting dynamic throughout the film. Eri Tokumaga does a good job as Tagami’s assistant in the film.
The writing in the film is good. The film has a weird and simple concept but excites it well. The film is about a man who penis who becomes detached from has body becoming a high-speed flying penis that the man must catch it and reattach it to his body within six days before it dies. This films concept is executed very well making for a simplistic but very fun plot. The films concept is very weird making for a very zany insane storyline. On top of that the film is very sweet with the main character going through a transformation within the film becoming a better person. This is shown as Tagami goes through his past remembering old friendships that ended badly, a long-lost past lover and going to see his parents. His idea of reconnecting with his past is a core theme throughout the film that ultimately makes him a better person. The film is both sad a weirdly sweet at the same time as through this bizarre concept he realises the damage he has caused as tries to make a mends and forms bonds throughout the film that are nice and really show his growth as a character. At the end of the film were he finally re attaches his penis it feels like a real trump. It as if all the trials and tribulations have paid off and he is allowed to be happy.
The cinematography is the film is good. The cinematography in the film is decent and works well in the film. There is good penis POV shots in the film that work well showing it as the high speed protectoral as well as a cool shot where it zooms out like a drone. There is also a good use black and white in the film when him and his dad catch his penis which gives off a zen like feels making a film that is sad a weirdly sweet. The special effects in the film are good. The CGI on the flying penis is good and the way it zooms around fast really helps to capture the energy of the film.
Popuran is a fun, funny, weird, over the top, crazy film that people should watch.
