Bloody Muscle Body Builder in hell is a low budget Japanese version of The Evil Dead that any fan of horror and b-movies would love.
The direction in the film is good. The film has a very low budget which works with this type of film, and it gives the movie a certain charm, this also creates a classic low budget cheesy horror feel. The film has a good dreary horror style and atmosphere to it, as well as the film ultimately being an evil dead rip-off with some scenes taken straight from The Evil Dead. Despite the film being from the 90s the film has a very 80s feel to it mirroring the style of the original Evil Dead witch is form the 80s as the film has a very cheesy style of the film which works. The film doesn’t waste any time in getting to the plot of the film, as the film has a melodramatic cheese to it with Shinji talking to his ex which work within the films style. There is a good haunting creepy supernatural element to the film as the film has a good weird creepy style to it which works well in the film. The film is great at showcasing a be awkward at times with its editing due to its low budget but that does lend to the films charm, as despite the low budget there is a good creepy horror atmosphere to the film.
The film has a good haunting creepy atmosphere to it as well as a good element of comedy throughout the film. The film uses classic horror motifs, as the demons have enjoyable low budget effects which creates a good haunting creepy atmosphere. The low budget effect also gives the film a good b-movie feel as the demonic creepiness in the film is layered with b-movie charm. The film has a good classic horror feel to it as the film very much has a bottle feel to it as all three of the characters must work together to archive a goal. Despite the low budget the film demons do have a good have a good haunting horror to them, which is show when the demon stabs the man with a knife until a great revel is shown were he seemly stabbed himself. It is then revealed that the demon tricked him with is very evil dead inspired which plays into the classic horror b movie style of the film.
The film has a great tone to it that geos form haunting and creepy to intense and manic in seconds as the film is completely insane and intense throughout. The film is full of Evil Dead’s motifs where the demons is seemly dead then comes alive again, as the film has an intense horror atmosphere combined with b-movie cheesiness, as they try and escape, but they can’t as the demon has the house under a spell. They then turn on a TV as they see the face of Shinji’s dad. He explains that the physic has become possessed by the spirt of his ex-lover who he killed as she went crazy, and he killed her by accident. The possessed woman wants to kill them, and they must kill her destroying her body for them to leave. Their dad then talks to them through the TV mirroring The Evil Dead scene where they listen to a tape recorder which lends to the films b-movie crazy over the top style.
The film has crazy over the top gory action scenes, as the decapitated body comes back to life using Evil Dead motifs which is also shown when Mika throws Shinji the axe which is shown in slow motion. They go to the basement witch very much as clear Evil Dead influences, this further shown with an Evil dead style sequence wee Shinji grabs a shotgun and loads it up quoting Evil Dead II by saying groovy. These Evil Dead influences are further shown as hands burst through the wall and grab Shinji like The Evil Dead. Body parts then starts becoming independent and attacking. Although this is not from the Evil dead it feels very inspired by the film as something that would happen in the Evil Dead franchise and is in step with the film’s comedy. The demon’s headless body then attacks them mirroring a scene from The Evil Dead as Shinji blows it away with his shotgun, in the main climax of the film the Skellington demon merges with the flesh of the demon professor which transforms his face and skin into a demon. The film then becomes comedic as Shinji spins the weight around several times several times as the demons just look at him like his stupid.
In the climax of the film the demons attack him, and he fights them off as he crushes the male demons’ head. The female demon then stabs him in the ankle with a knife as she gets on top of him as he crawls away, he then slaps her and sucks her blood out as she seemly becomes human however the main demon is still alive. Shinji unscrews his weights and launches the poll through his mouth and head as they demon tires to free himself, as this happens Shinji crawls towards the shotgun in an intense shootout with the demon’s stomach stopping him as he crushes the intestines in his hand. The girl then wakes up normal as Shinji blows the demon to pieces killing it. The writing in the film is good. The film starts out Tokyo in the early 70s where a girl is trying to kill a guy with a knife as the guy kills her, he then buries her body under the floor. The film is very much a rip off of The evil dead with the girl being killed and buried in the cellar, as he drops the neckless down there mirroring a scene form The Evil Dead. The possessed demon girl then pops back up grabbing him as he kills her with a shovel, the film then picks up thirty years later following bodybuilder Shinji as the main character of the film, as he gets a phone call form his ex-girlfriend Mika about a photo of a house as she is writing about haunted locations.
He meets up with her as they talk about her journalism on the supernatural, Shinji is a character that doesn’t know what to do with his life as the house is Shinji’s dads that his brother died in and is now a wreak. Shinji is shown as being health conscious as a bodybuilder as he shows both his ex and the physic the house. Shinji wants to use the house as a gym by the physic warns of ghosts as he senses an evil presence. They see a child’s drawing of a face and dolls hinting at evil as Shinji mocks the physic witch his ex doesn’t like. Shinji is a sarcastic character as the physic feels a presence and tries to connect with it. The demons arrive and talk to the physic as a demon arm come from behind Shinji’s shoulder as a clock falls on the physic knocking him out until he comes around. The physic says the demon woman dropped a clock on him as he does back there alone to confront her, the physic the finds a doll and a wrapped-up kitchen knife as he sees visions of the demon girl. The physic finds the demon who attacks him as he tris to stab him with a knife, but it is then relived that he stabbed himself as the demon tricked him. Shinji and Mika go and check on him were they find a bloody knife and lasses as well as the dying professor who is being possessed and warns them to leave, as all the doors and windows are slammed and locked shut. The possessed sensei then pops back up with a knife and tris to kill them as Shinji sticks a knife through the back of his head skewing his eye in the process.
Sensei then slits his throat as Sensei then jumps back and attacks Shinji. Shinji then sticks the demons wrist to a nail before he breaks free and attacks them again as they lock the demon in the cellar, as the possessed professor then crashes though the upstairs onto the downstairs and attack’s them. Shinji and the professor then fight as he decapitates him with a shovel as the body is alive and squirming on the ground. The headless body then appears and attacks Shinji, as Mima throws Shinji an axe as he hacks the demon apart evil dead style. They decide to burn him but neither of them have a lighter as Shinji convinced her to stop smoking as she holds his hand in a nice little character moment, as they then go to the basement which has a very evil dead feel in how its presented. The film has a very Evil Dead-style sequence as Shinji finds a shotgun and loads it up saying groovy as they find parts of the body are missing. A hand the burst through the wall and grabs Shinji like The Evil Dead. Body parts then become independent and starts attacking them this is not from The Evil Dead, but it very much feels like something that would happen in that franchise. Shinji then blast the body parts away with a shotgun as Mika cuts them up with a knife.
The demon then attacks, and bites Mika as Shinji gouges his eyes out and blast it with a shotgun, the demon’s body then attacks them as in an evil dead scene Shinji blows it away with a shotgun. Mika then. Gets bitten by a demon as a demon comes bursting through the floorboards. The demon professor then regenerates into a mass of flesh giving the demon skin, as Mika is now possessed and attacks Shinji. The demon then kisses Shinji in a funny moment as Shinji rams his hand into the demon and rips out his guts as the demon attacks him. Mika then attacks Shinji grabbing his privates which is funny as she throws him an insane way. Shinji then finds work out equipment and uses his muscles in an incredible hulk like scene, flexing and ripping open his shirt as he gets geared up and fights them with a glow in the background like his calling. The film then goes comedic as Shinji spins the weight round several times as the demons just look at him like his stupid.
In the climax of the film the s attack him as he fights them. he crushes the male demons head as the female demon stabs him in the ankle with a knife, she then gets on top of him as he crawls away as he slaps her and sucks her blood out seemly making her human. The male demon is still alive however, as in a race against time Shinji unscrews his weights and launches the poll through his mouth as the head demon tries to free himself as Shinji crawls towards the shotgun as intestines shoot out of the demon’s stomach stopping him as he crushes the intestines in his hand. Mika then wakes up as normal as Shinji blows the demon into pieces killing it as the demon starts to get themself back together as a little monster, but since it doesn’t have enough strength, it dies as they both go out the house alive but blooded and battered as the demon face opens the door at the end showing the evil has not been killed.
The cinematography in the film is good. The film is low budget, and the film has cinematography that is technically bad but works for the film, the film uses photography in the film with still pictures and a POV of the camera. The film has a good dark look to it as well as a good POV shot of the demon coming through the mirror. The film has a good use of swooping camera motions as well as a good shot were a character moves back to revel a figure. There is a good shot we the demon sabs the professor in the eye it is then revealed he stabbed himself, as it is then relived the demon tricked him. there is a cool effect as Shinji’s dad appears speaking to them via the TV screen as his face appears as the film has a good use of intense close ups. The camera looks up at the characters in the film as well as a heavenly glow effect in the film.
The special effects in the film are low budget and cheesy, they technically are bad, but they work in the film, there is a cool effect for example when blood gets sucks up into the characters neckless. There are cool blood effects in the film as a demon arm gets cut off. The demon makes up in the film is good with blood on their faces and white eyes, as well as blood dripping form their mouths. There is a cool effect where the necklace comes out of his mouth and borrows into his eye, as Shinji sticks a knife through the back of his head screwing his eye in the process. There is a good effect were the physic as a demon slits his throat and blood goes everywhere, as Shinji the decapitates him with a shovel. There are good costumes as the decapitated body comes back to life, as well as good bloody and goy effects when Shinji hacks the demon apart. There is good use of props as independent body parts move around as well as good prop and practical effect when the demon head bikes Mika and drinks her blood. There is a cool and disturbing effect were Shinji gouges the demon’s eyes out, as Shinji blasts the demons head with a shotgun. There is a cool evil dead style effect were the demons headless body attacks them as Shinji blows it away with a shotgun, as there are also cool blood effects from a demon bite. There is a good use of stop motion as the demon blood evaporates, as well as a cool gore effect as the demon professor turns into a living blob of flesh. There is a cool effect were the flesh transforms into skin and then into a cheesy low budget looking demon, there is also good gore effects when Shinji rips the demon’s guts out.
Bloody Muscle Body Builder in hell is a fun, crazy, over the top horror film that nay fan of The Evil dead films, b movies or low budget horror films would love.
