Alien: Romulus is a good fun entertaining film that fans of the alien franchise will enjoy.
The direction in the film is good. The actors in the film are good together. The alien films rely on there being a rage tag team of people that get into a bad situation and this film does this well. The team feels like real ordinary people that are there to do a job and that normal person dynamic fits well in the alien universe. The mood of the film is gritty dark and oppressive. The alien films always have a dark and moody feel to them, and this film is no different with an oppressive dystopian atmosphere that very much feel like a film in the alien universe. The style of the film is that of a dark gritty sci-fi. The film feels like an 80s sci-fi film with a dark gritty ecstatic and feels like something out of the 80s.
The acting in the film is good. Cailee Spaeny does a good job as Rain an orphaned Minor that comes into her own as a survivor of an alien attack and action movie star by the end of the film. David Jonsson does a good job as Andy an android reprogrammed by Rain’s father and acts as her surrogate brother; he is submissive at the beginning but comes into his own at the end of the film. Archie Renaux does a good job as Tyler Kay’s brother and Rains ex-boyfriend; he has a hatred towards Andy and other androids due to his traumatic past and has a though gruff persona because of this. Isabela Merced does a good job as Kay Tyler’s pregnant sister that suffers a grizzly fate. Spike Fearn does a god job as Bjon Tyler and Kay’s cousin. Aileen Wu does a good job as Navarro a pilot and Bjorn’s girlfriend.
The writing in the film is good. The film is a good sci-fi horror film the film uses its genres to crate and fun and entertaining film that also has a good sci-fi horror atmosphere with a creepy fee to it. The film feels like a gritty sci-fi film form the 80s and has a retro feel to it witch fits with the franchise. The film also has a good horror style to it leaning into the feel the original alien to create a simplistic but effect horror atmosphere that works. The film also links back into the original alien film and feels the most like the original which is effective simplistic horror premise and creepy atmosphere.
The cinematography in the film is good. The cinematheque is well done and everything look good in the film. The film has a great dark look to do the film look dark and gritty and feel like an old 80 s sci-fi horror film due to its dark gritty look. The film also has other looks to it with the outside world feeling oppressive and dystopian. The film also has a good use of lighting to it particularly red lighting in a scene.
The special effects in the film are good. The practical effects of the films sets and gore effects and good. The practicality is what makes them work with is what makes them good and feels like an alien film. the CGI in the film is also good the spaceships and space itself looks good and everything feels big and epic when the ships are flying though space. The aliens in the film also look good the CGI aliens looks good and with the dark lighting works in the film. However, the alien hybrid in the film is not a bad idea on concept buts its execution with the CGI is a bit iffy. Also, the CGI Ash doesn’t look bad but does look a bit like a deep fake.
Alien Romulus is a good fun entertaining film that fans of the alien franchise will enjoy.
